Chad Wikander has hosted Granite Man, a Rogue Valley favorite, for several years. It’s a wonderful early summer event at Applegate Lake, which started out as an off-road triathlon and has become a multi-sport festival weekend.
This year he has taken eight races under his wing, forming the Rogue Valley Race Group. These include the recently held Siskiyou Sprint Triathlon and the popular Spring Thaw Mountain Bike Festival (in its 22nd year!) Spring Thaw draws mountain bike racers from all across the West Coast! And May 30 was the Bike Chata, a fun 20-mile ride in Talent.
On June 13-14 we host Granite Man up at Applegate Lake, presented by Southern Oregon Subaru! Granite Man brings 350-400 racers over the two day event, which includes a spectacular off-road mountain bike triathlon, duathlon, trail running races, a kids triathlon, and this year we are adding a Mountain Bike Challenge and even a Cross-Fit competition! We are planning an exciting party for the racers and our partners at Frau Kemmling’s Schoolhaus Brewhaus, Saturday afternoon on June 13th in Jacksonville, where the triathletes, cross-fitters and runners will converge. Come join in the fun!
All summer long, get yourself ready for our September races by joining our new Triathlon Training Team! It starts Mid-June. It will happen alongside our 10 week Pool 2 Path summer race series, a timed 500 yard pool swim at Daniel Meyer Pool, followed by a 5k run each week. Pool 2 Path is a great way for athletes to track their progress.
We’ll offer an organized calendar of workouts, including an effective bodyweight workout with Jeff Dorris at Snap Fitness. We will meet for post-workout juice or salad at NW Raw Organic Juice Bar, and will present an inspiring and informative speaker series on how to train for triathlons, optimal race fuel, success coaching, detox strategies, etc. Our proceeds will benefit a local boy in town; more on that later. To join the Triathlon Training Team, call 541-864-9366.
Here are the two events the Tri Training Team is preparing for:
Lake of the Woods Tri*Sport Weekend: September 12-13th
RVRG’s newest event features a sprint triathlon (great for beginners and sprinters). There’s also an Olympic distance triathlon, kids triathlon, and running races on Sunday. Saturday afternoon there will be a band, biergarten and BBQ by the lodge! Boat rides, too!
We help organize the Siskiyou Challenge, Sept 19th, Ashland’s 6 leg relay race. Like to kayak? We always need more kayakers for our relays. Join up with friends or co-workers, a perfect relay to train for with our new Tri Training Team.
We hope you’ll come out for one or all of our races this summer, and do join us for the Triathlon Training Team. You can also join if you only run or cycle!
Many thanks to our Granite Man sponsors: Southern Oregon Subaru, BioSkin, REI and Hyperbiotics!
