TreeHouse Golden Acorn List for September – favorite books for the season:

Apple, by Nikki McClure – ages 3-6   This simple storybook shows the cycle of life through an Apple, beautifully illustrated with Nikki McClure’s bold papercut artwork.  It’s a perfect snuggle book for the Autumn Season for young children.
Rufus Goes to School, by Kim Griswell, Local Ashland Author –  ages 3 – 6 This is a sweet story about a pig that wants to go to school.  The Principal won’t allow him to…UNTIL, Rufus finally explains why he REALLY wants to go to school.  It’s my favorite back-to-school book for the season!  (Kim will be signing copies of her book at TreeHouse 4pm to 6pm, 9-6-13)
Remarkable, by Lizzie K. Foley – ages 8-12 A funny story about a plain 10-year-old girl named Jane, who lives in a town where everyone else has a special talent.  Adventure begins when a strange pirate captain moves to town.  Read this to get in the mood for Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Liar & Spy, by Rebecca Stead – ages 9-12   If you like mystery, spies and adventure, you’ll love this original story about a seventh-grade boy named Georges and his friend Safer.  It’s intelligent, funny and mysterious!
The Apprentices, by Maile Meloy – ages 10 & up  I love this sequel to The Apothecary.  It takes place in 1954, when Janie and Benjamin are 16 and living on opposite continents.  As in the first book, the kids have to use their apothecary skills to save the world from nuclear bombs, and the adventure continues with world travel, potions and magic, (and a touch of romance).
The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green – ages 14 & up  This is the story of 16-year-old Hazel and her friend Augustus, who meet in a support group for kids with cancer.  Wow!  Be prepared to love these kids’ Carpe Diem approach to life.  (And be prepared to cry your eyes out!)
