Barn Owls, I Mean Great Horned Owls in a Barn
The plan for this newsletter was to tell the story of a family of great horned owls I’ve been “shooting” the last several weeks. For now, I’m going to let a few photographs tell the story.
I’ve spent a lot of time with these birds and it’s been very rewarding. With a bit of patience, I’ve been able to get incredibly close.
a fledgling great horned owl inspects the photographer from the edge of the barn.
I don’t know if I’d call these youngsters pretty, but they have a charm all their own.
This was the first time I witnessed any of the four young owls actually leave the barn. Imagine seeing the outside
world for the first time. it must be overwhelming and probably a bit scary.
Of course it helps when mother owl is standing guard most of the time.
The story of these birds is still unfolding and I’ll be posting more photos on the website, blog and probably in a future newsletter.
If you don’t have plans Friday and live in southern Oregon, consider attending the “First Annual” Elster Photography Preview Party at Studio 5 (258 A Street, above Lela’s/across from Ace in the Railroad District in Ashland). I’m a bit nervous about turnout. There will be live music and refreshments served. I’ll be unveiling several of my latest images – some you may have seen (in these updates) and some you haven’t. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions about directions etc.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by my booth in Ashland last weekend. The summer art festival season is officially here. For the next several weeks, I’ll be at the Lithia Artisan’s Market in Ashland…I’m still waiting to fill up my out of town show schedule.
Sorry this newsletter is a bit short.
Thank you for reading and for supporting Elster Photography!

One more shot….
A recent shot of a western screech owl. Tiny compared to great horned owls, they make up for it with attitude.
