Co-op Farm Tours 2016

Have you ever wanted to see behind the scenes and shake the hands that grow

your food? Here’s your chance to knock elbows with some of the dedicated farmers

that bring food to your table every day. Gather the family, take a ride on an air-conditioned bus, and enjoy a picnic lunch provided by the Co-op. If you have dietary needs beyond vegetarian or wheat free, please kindly bring your own picnic lunch.

Blue Fox Farm & Whistling Duck

Saturday, July 30, 7:45am-late afternoon

Chris and Melanie at Blue Fox Farm use high tunnel greenhouses to provide us with heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchinis about a month before their field grown counterparts. This farm has provided very high-quality produce to our store for 10+ years, is constantly improving their systems, and is extremely dedicated to soil health.

Mary and Vince at Whistling Duck were the first to produce a local packaged salad mix, and are trailblazers for the local organic produce movement. Over the last 20+ years, Whistling Duck has provided a mix of seasonal leafy greens, root veggies and heirloom tomatoes to the Co-op from April-December. If you can’t make the farm tour, be sure to stop by their onsite Farm Stand.

Rolling Hills & Fry Family Farm

Saturday, August 20, 7:45am-late afternoon

Dave at Rolling Hills provides the Co-op with fresh peaches from July to early October. Over the last 20+ years, Dave has grown many heritage peach varieties. There is something so beautiful and flavorful about a tree ripened peach.

Steve and Suzi at Fry Family Farm produce melons, plant starts, winter squash and row crops for the Co-op, April through December. The Frys are also trailblazers for the local organic food movement, and are currently building a production facility that would open up processing and storage to other local farmers.

Sign up for one farm tour or both! They’ll be vastly different. This is a family-friendly event. Each tour includes unsteady ground, lots of walking, hot sun, possible rain, and lots of fun! Please bring a water bottle, hat and your walking shoes, we’ll provide the rest.
