In last month’s LocalsGuide article we discussed the Therapeutic Exercises offered at Inward Bound Wellness. Additional offerings include Physical Therapy, Myofascial Release, and Massage.

As the name suggests, Physical Therapy is focused on the physical body – how it moves, feels, and functions. When limitations are present due to accidents, injuries, or the general wear and tear of life, movement can become a painful chore instead of something that lifts your spirit, boosts your health, and lets you interact in the world with ease.

The Physical Therapy Practice of Emily Dean Warren, Mindful Movement, is based out of Inward Bound Wellness. Emily uses Pilates-based exercises and functional movements to identify muscle imbalances, aberrant movement patterns, and regions of your body that over/underwork. She then designs programs geared to eliminate your unique imbalances or limitations.

Though she focuses on self-care and gives you tools to help yourself, occasionally the body needs external input to aid or accelerate the healing process. In these cases, Emily uses hands-on techniques including joint mobilization, assisted range of motion, deep tissue massage, and myofascial release. The intent of all of these modalities is to free up regions of restriction in your body.

As well as problem-focused Physical Therapy, Emily offers bodywork-only sessions. Deep tissue massage can be intense with a focus on releasing adhesions in the muscle fibers. Myofascial Release is a gentler approach using sustained pressure to release restrictions in the fascia. Fascia is a network of soft tissue that surrounds and connects all structures in the body allowing for the continuous transport of fluids, electrical impulses, and information.

At Inward Bound Wellness, our hope is that Mindful Movement will lead you on an exploration of movements that heal and energize your body, mind, and spirit.
