Featured Vendor: Booth #598, Magpie Fashions A Lifetime of Adventures Translates to Spicy Fashions and Unique Creations at Magpie Fashions

I am a former teacher (retired), and a published author, who has always wanted to have a boutique. The booth at Ashland Artisan Emporium allows me to have a boutique without having to run my own business. I can collect, create and offer fashions for women that are fun, unique and affordable. I love it!

The booth features clothing, jewelry, accessories, an occasional item of décor and/or beauty, and a few interesting books too!! I have added some skin care and aromatherapy products that I make myself from high quality oils and lotions combined with potent essential oils from doTerra.

I have had an interesting career working as a teacher and a social worker in some relatively uncharted cultures and subcultures in these modern days. Some interesting adventures that I’ve had include living and working on the Hopi Indian Reservation for nine years, working with programs in South Tucson to help youth avoid gang involvement, and helping teach Hmong students English in the Central Valley in California. I love dancing, cooking, singing, gardening, writing, making art, and spending time with my friends and family members. My loves, my sense of humor, my imagination and my expanded view as a world citizen have combined to be a great resource for unique inventions and handiwork.

Recently, my daughter, granddaughter and I began working on some Three Generation Creations for the home or garden, featuring fairy lore and ornamentation. The booth at Ashland Artisan Emporium has been a wonderful outlet for me. I thank the Emporium for the opportunity to express myself in this way. The creativity brings joy to me, and I hope to others who might like to have some of the fashions and creations for themselves, or a gift for others.

Come and meet the Magpies, who dress in exotic feathers, and don hats. Bring a friend… embrace life…dress up and join the party!

Ashland Artisan Emporium

The Ashland Artisan Emporium is owned by Michelle Christian, wife and mother of 3 daughters. Her husband, Travis, is the business manager for Adroit Construction in Ashland, Oregon. The Emporium was the vision of Michael Rydbom, Michelle's father. In April of 2010, Michael asked his daughter if she would be willing to help transform the old DJ's Video space into a crafter's marketplace. Michelle had always admired her dad's entrepreneurial spirit and was eager to make him proud, so even though she already had two kids, a real estate career and one more daughter on the way, she said yes. On November 1, 2010, the store opened it's doors to a welcome reception from the community. They were voted Best New Business of 2010 only months later by the Ashland Sneak Preview. Within weeks of opening, the store was at capacity and had quickly become the "go-to" store for all things unique and affordable.
