How to make your patio an extension of your home

Garrisons-ColumnSpring is here. Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and the weather is starting to get nice again. If you’re like many homeowners, you consider the patio an extension of your home. Would you be comfortable hosting company in your outdoor space, or sitting on your patio sipping a cup of morning coffee reading the paper? If you answered no, then it’s time to spruce it up with these tips and tricks that will help you extend the hours you spend outside and make the time you spend there more relaxing.

First start by investing in some outdoor furniture that will last. Cheap pieces may look nice for one or two seasons, but how quickly the color fades, the wood chips, and before you know it your back at the store buying another set. Create a spot for perfect casual conversation by situating two love seats or chairs set at an angle or across from each other.

Second, add a rug and pillows. Two objects that help complete any room, giving it that homey touch. Prints and colors can make a space really stand out. We recommend outdoor textiles that are water and mold resistant.

Third, plants, plants, and more plants. Don’t have extra budget for pots and planters?  No problem! Try spray painting some old coffee cans bright colors or wrapping clean paint cans in decorative oil cloth. Place them sporadically throughout the patio for a pop of color.

Lastly, lighting. When the sun is setting and you want to extend the leisurely evening we recommend bistro lights and candles. Both of these instantly turn an outdoor space in to a cozy oasis where you can keep the party going.

Hopefully these tips can help enrich your outdoor living space for years to come.
