Living Chocolate?!

I hope you are settling in nicely to 2019. February is the doorway to March and the precipice of the real spring regardless of what the weather may bring. We here at the greenhouses hope that your New Year’s resolutions included getting into your garden more. We have colorful blooms taking place here and it really begins with the pansies and primroses. They are the front soldiers of spring flowers, and you could throw in cyclamen and a plethora of early season perennials. We have a nice selection of both herbs and flowering perennials. Most of these youngsters have been planted since October, taking time to establish roots. We have a whole wave of plant availability coming behind them.

When you make your way to the greenhouses you will see all the planting that has taken place over the last few weeks we’ve been open. There’s always something to see and experience here even though we’re just getting started for the season. Oh, and let’s not forget about Valentine’s Day. What I’ve done for several years is grab an assortment of perennials, herbs, and flowering color such as cyclamen, and offered them as a living bouquet. This includes chocolate. Chocolate? Yeah, chocolate mint! We have an assortment of different mints including orange, peppermint, pineapple, and others, that are a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s a not so traditional form that prolongs the celebration by transplanting them to the garden. And if you need to drop a hint for your partner, we do offer gift certificates that can be used throughout the year.

February is also the time when our hours extend and we begin to open on Saturday’s. Something else to look forward to would be our classes that promote ongoing garden education. Owner Kelly will kick off the season next month with our Cool Season Annuals & Perennials class on March 14th @ 10:00am. Check our website for current hours, class dates, and class descriptions. Most of the classes themselves are free but we do have limited space so be sure to sign up. Some charges apply for materials used in hands-on classes.

Hope to see you soon so you can keep your garden resolutions!
