Managing Chronic Pain

Over the past 25 years Dr. Greenberg has continued to incorporate the most advanced and effective treatments to help his patients maintain a high degree of function and excellent quality of life by managing chronic pain. He is an expert in the exciting new field of Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT), and is excited to offer these services to his patients, in addition to the full range of more traditional pain management.

Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT)

PIT uses the healing power of dextrose–a simple natural sugar– injected just under the skin to treat the nerves that can often be the underlying cause of many painful conditions.  Neck and back pain, shoulder pain, tennis and golfers elbow are just some of the conditions that respond well to this minimally invasive and highly effective treatment.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy also uses dextrose, but with this treatment the injections target deeper tendons, ligaments and joints that have become injured and have not healed well. The injections stimulate the body to bring in the specialized cells and proteins that heal injury and degeneration of these tissues.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets are the cells that circulate in your blood that start the healing process after an injury. They release tiny storage units full of proteins that rebuild tissue and regulate inflammation. We can use the powerful healing properties of these cells by isolating and concentrating them from a blood sample and placing these cells in an injured area that needs help returning to a pain-free condition.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cells are specialized components of our bone marrow, fat and other tissues that are our “reserves”. When an injury or degeneration occurs these cells are attracted to the area where new replacement tissue is needed. These cells can also be extracted, concentrated, and used to benefit injuries causing chronic pain.

Alpha 2 Macroglobulin (A2M)

Very recently scientists have discovered A2M as the “master controller of inflammation”. It is a protein that circulates in the blood and “turns off” the inflammatory process in joints that suffer from osteoarthritis. This protein cannot on its own get into joints to accomplish this, but can be extracted from blood similar to PRP and injected into an inflamed joint to slow or even stop the degenerative process and provide pain relief.

While all of these treatments can be beneficial, it takes a knowledgeable and experienced physician to properly evaluate your specific condition and offer the best option. Often, these powerful treatments require image guidance such as Utrasound or Flouroscopy for the best outcomes. Dr. Greenberg has all of these tools available to manage or even resolve painful conditions that affect the spine, shoulder, hips, knees ankles/feet, elbows and all the muscles, tendons and ligaments.  Call 541-482-1712 to set up a consultation appointment.
