Mara Momsen The Path To Healing

Introducing Mara Momsen, a licensed massage therapist with over 30 years of experience. Mara obtained her degree in Mind Body Transformational Psychology from the Southwest Institute of the Healing Arts in 2012. Mara also holds various certification as follows: yoga instructor, Quantum Biofeedback practitioner, holistic nutrition, TRE instructor, advanced Frequency Specific Microcurrent practitioner, hypnotherapy, life coaching, Matrix Energetics, Reconnective Healing, Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy, and Neupathways.

Mara’s father was a geographer and had assignments all over the world. Mara was fortunate to be able to visit many of those locations and learn about diversity and different cultures first hand. Being a product of the 1960’s, she was taken to love-ins, anti-war rallies, and meditated with the Maharshi Mahesh yogi with her mother in Los Angeles. Mara learned compassion and caring for others in a non-traditional way. By visiting her grandmother in New York and going to plays and museums, Mara experienced East Coast Culture as well. All this activity as a child contributes to the inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge Mara possesses today.

As an added bonus, Mara gets much of her intuition and inquisitive nature from her ancestors. Mara’s grandfather was a massage therapist and forerunner in the chiropractic community in the 1920’s in Los Angeles. She has strong Celtic roots and many of the women in her lineage were known as Fey or seers (clairvoyant). Mara utilizes these inherited gifts to help her navigate her way through the stories of the past to find pathways of healing for others.

Mara, thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us today. To begin with, please tell us a little bit more about your self.

Thank you for the opportunity to address this wonderful community. It seems that I came into this world always seeking more. I was in the in the gifted programs in elementary school. And I can remember the other kids making fun of me when I took advanced sciences in middle and high school. I have always been that person who needed to know how things work. Even to this day I’m always questioning why and how, seeming to be the devil’s advocate when it comes to looking at things from an alternative perspective.

I believe this works to my advantage. When I learn something new, my perspective just keeps getting broader. I believe one of the things we are here on this planet to experience is expansion. My way of achieving expansion is through learning, going with flow of changing tides and coming up with new ways to do things. I once heard someone say that everything on this planet that is manmade was first just a thought. So, I strive to be one of those people who thinks outside the box so I may contribute to my fellow humans in a different fashion. From a different perspective, I hope to benefit myself and everyone I come in contact with.

Mara you have always been a life long learner. Please talk more about this passion and about what inspires you to learn.

I have always been an inquisitive person even when I was a small child. In my early 20’s I witnessed an accident and instead of just passing it off as a horrible situation, the event piqued my curiosity of how the boy was saved. This was the awakening of my journey of how to facilitate healing. I was in the next emergency medical technician class and was driving an ambulance nine months later. My journey into the realms of healing had begun. Little did I know that my path would not follow a straight trajectory. Traditional medicine was not to be my path. First I obtained my massage license, then yoga teacher certification. This was the beginning of my alternative and complimentary modality journey.

But before getting into more interesting, diverse, and advanced trainings, I had to take an inward journey that is integral to who I am as a healer. This was the journey of self-healing. As a survivor of childhood abuse, I had to find healing for myself. For years I tried to numb my pain in various self-destructive ways. One day I remember saying to myself “I need to find out why I am the way I am,” referring to the self-destruction. That was my true awakening of the path that was to unfold. Through my quest to heal myself I have been blessed to have been guided to many alternative modalities for self-healing and facilitating healing for others.

You see, I believe we all have an innate ability to heal ourselves whether it be physical, mental, or emotional. These aspects of ourselves are not separate, they all work in concert to create a whole being. I feel that healing, whatever that is for you, is best addressed from all aspect so the human organism can thrive in its entirety. Not just one aspect of it.

I realize that my style of holistic healing may not be for everyone. This is why I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if I am a good fit to facilitate your healing journey. And what is even more beautiful is that we have an amazing group of healers in this community. If my methods don’t line up with what you need, I have some amazing people I can refer you to.

You must have a great memory to be able to track so many variables, compute the information you gather, and then render it relevant.

This question made me laugh because it immediately reminded me of my dog walking days. I once had 26 dogs and a wolf at an off-leash dog park, all at the same time. In a way that scenario is similar to gathering information about someone and creating a coherent picture. You take all the separate pieces of information and piece them together like a puzzle. Looking for the missing pieces that will fill in the entire picture. If one part is out of focus or missing, what can I do to bring the entire system into focus with coherence and clarity so the human organism can thrive in its entirety? It’s akin to those dogs who chose to stay together and play as a coherent pack, even when there were other dogs to play with. I loved those days. Those dogs taught me so much about non-judgement, love, and how to use my intuition.

Mara, when clients come in to see you, what are you paying attention to and how do you begin to help them?

Information can show up in so many ways, and it’s different for each and every person. Of course, we start with a comprehensive intake form. For some people information shows up right away as patterns in their field or body. For some it shows up within the conversations we have. Others it is organic process of uncovering where imbalances are through the simple testing processes I provide. Ultimately it is a combination of all of it. Some might need to track food intake for a while to get a better picture of what is going on. Ultimately, I match the needs of the client to enable them to reach their desired goals. There is no set protocol, each approach is individualized. Through careful listening and intuition, I mix and match modalities to find just the right fit for the individual. When the client is able to become aligned and coherent with their health goals, healing can begin to happen organically.

One thing I must emphasize is that the approach I take is a collaborative effort between myself and the client. I am not here to fix you. I am here to create an opportunity for change. I love the quote from Voltaire “The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” There is great power in allowing the body, mind, spirit to heal when you invite the persons own innate intelligence to begin to work in favor of the client. I believe that whatever keeps the cosmos in order is also running through the body of each and every one of us. When we tap into that innate intelligence it is amazing what can happen. I have witnessed some miraculous healings in my day. (Check out the testimonials on you tube from Dr. Joe Dispenza).

I think this is a good time to actually let people know what I do and what my role is in helping them. I want to make it clear that I do not diagnose anything. If you come with a diagnosis that’s awesome because it gives us a better understanding of our starting point. What I offer is the opportunity to create a stable and coherent state in the human organism. This allows healing or peak performance to unfold in an easier and more graceful way. This can be achieved from many different perspectives. Finding the right combination to support for you is my passion. If you are working with a traditional doctor in the western medicine model, I can support you in that journey too.

Mara over the years you have acquired training in a myriad of healing modalities and unique health devices. Please share a little bit about what you have the ability to do when someone comes in to see you.

  • HRV – Heartquest Heart Rate Variability is quick 5-minute test that gives a window into the body’s regulatory systems, their interconnectivity and how they are functioning to maintain health. It shows how stress is impacting a person’s wellbeing and provides information on how to improve their resiliency. This non invasive test makes it easy to track changes in health.

  • Bio-Well – Using technology of Gas Discharge Visualization, GDVCAMERA Bio-Wellillustrates the state of a person’s energy field. This simple test provides information gathered from observing the discharge of photons and electrons emitted from the fingertips. With this information we can map different organs and systems of the body as well as tracking imbalances and vitality. By taking measurements at regular intervals we can track when change occurs.
  • QXCI/SCIO Quantum Biofeedback – This technology scans the body much like scanning a computer for viruses. The test matrix provides reactivity scores to thousands of items. The results provide information about different organs, and systems of the body. If imbalances, deficiencies or excesses are present we are energetically able to help the body return to homeostasis.
  • FSM – Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a technology that was resurrected from the 1920’s. This device allows us to target specific tissues in the body with specific frequencies that help restore health and vitality.
  • TRE – TRE is short for tension and trauma releasing exercises. Performing a simple set of 7 exercises will elicit a natural response in the body that helps regulate the nervous system. This allows us to respond not react to every day stressful situations in life. This technique is great for relieving daily stress and tension, helps in recovery from accidents or surgery, dealing PTSD, shortened recovery time from peak performance training and so much more.
  • Lucia Light – This unique light delivers an amazing psychedelic experience by activating the pineal gland. It also helps us to drop into a state similar to deep meditation allowing the central nervous system to reset and relax.
  • Neupathways – Have you ever wondered if there was a brain hack to eliminate pain, stress and negative emotions? Well here it is. This simple system can be learned in 3 1-hour sessions and gives us direct access to our subconscious mind. Working with the mind/body connection is undeniably powerful. I have watched people turn their pain off so quickly I could hardly believe what I was witnessing.
  • Matrix Energetics – This is just fun. Playing in the quantum or unified field can create opportunity for change. This one is hard to explain because all I do is access information in your energy field and play with it. Through the act of observation and allowing for possible change patterns and energy can shift. This change can occur in any or all layers of our being from physical to etheric.
  • Reconnective Healing – This modality helps restore optimal states of balance by introducing a wide spectrum of frequencies consisting of energy, light and information. Recent studies have even shown that this spectrum brings about a distinctly beneficial transformation in our DNA. On 3 occasions Dr. William Tiller, a physicist, measured the energy in the room where Reconnective Healing was taking place. The increase in the excess free thermodynamic energy in the room, if compared to a regular measurement of energy, would have shown an increase of temperature of 300 degrees centigrade.
  • Holistic Nutrition – Teaching people the basics of how to use food for medicine is my primary goal. It is possible to target certain systems of the body through eating specific foods. I take the energetic and emotional components of food into account as well. Eating properly is a necessity in creating a stable state for the human organism to thrive and heal.
  • Massage Therapy – Everyone knows massage is great for relieving stress and pain. Being trained in many types of massage has its advantages. I’m able to work on all the various layers of the body from subtle, using biodynamic cranial sacral therapy, to the deep connective tissues utilizing neuromuscular reeducation, and everything in between. Check my website for all the modalities I offer.
  • Hypnotherapy – Hypnotherapy can help solidify change by making gentle suggestions while you are in a highly relaxed state. In this state, clients can turn their attention completely inward to find and utilize the natural resources deep within themselves that can help them obtain their goals.

  • Life Coaching – Helping you define and reach your goal is important to me. Whether you need a cheerleader, someone to keep you motivated or just a little help navigating the most direct path to your goal, I’m here for you. For the most part, this service is included when you are working with me. But just know if you need a little extra attention in the motivation department I’m here to help.

Many of these healing modalities are very cutting edge. Please say more.

What I find interesting is how I came to learn about many of the modalities and devices I use. Most are not mainstream or well known even in the complimentary and alternative community. This leaves me with the task of having to become an educator as well.

The QXCI or quantum biofeedback was my introduction to healing in the quantum field. Soon after that I was off to learn Matrix Energetics, and so on. It seemed as though the universe sent me on a scavenger hunt to find new healing modalities and devices. As soon as I was happy and content with the tools I had accumulated, another clue would show up and off I would go learning something new or finding a new device. I’m sure my scavenger hunt will never end. But for now, I have an amazing set of tools and skills that range from tangible to energetic.

Talk about Frequency Specific Microcurrent and your use of this technique.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent is an FDA approved device that is classified as a tens unit. Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a new system of treatment using microamperage current and the resonance effects of frequencies on tissues and conditions to create beneficial changes in symptoms and health.

The frequency thought to address or neutralize the condition is put on channel A. The frequency thought to address the tissue is put on channel B. The frequencies used in FSM are all less than 1000 Hz. There are frequencies from the list alleged to address over 200 conditions from very common conditions like “inflammation”, “scar tissue”, “mineral deposits” and “toxicity”. There can be no claims made for the effects of the frequencies until research has documented their effects. All that can be said is that use of this or that frequency had this observed effect in this patient with a certain condition. No technique is 100% effective and FSM is no exception. The effectiveness of FSM depends almost entirely on an accurate diagnosis.

Most everyone is a candidate for FSM. People who are dehydrated cannot benefit from FSM. This tends to include the elderly, who tend to be chronically dehydrated, and some athletes with large muscle mass. It is recommended that you drink at lest one quart of water one hour prior to treatment. Clients that are chronically dehydrated might need to drink more water a few days prior to treatment.

I’d also love to hear more about the Lucia Light!

The Lucia Light utilizes a halogen bulb and eight LED lights. These lights flicker at different intensities and frequencies creating an experience for the user that is quite remarkable. With the eyes shut the light travels through the retina and down the optic nerve and activates the pineal gland. The pineal gland then excretes a chemical elixir that elicits change.

The one thing the users of the light have in common is the experience of seeing vibrant colors and fractals. Other than that, the experience is unique to each individual. There have been stories of out of body experiences, visiting with loved ones who have crossed over or spirit guides, to seeing other worldly landscapes and more, so much more. My belief is the more we are able to surrender into the experience the more we are open to have something out of the ordinary show up.

Benefits may include an increased sense of peace, stress relief, increased creativity, increased peak performance and enhanced recovery, being able to wake easier in the morning due to neurotransmitter balance, help with addiction and more. I have heard stories of physical healing taking place as well.

Mara, how are you working with your clients to establish health goals?

The main thing is to listen very carefully to what people are saying. I look for clues in unexpected places. Here is an easy example: someone might be telling me their goal is to lose weight. But in the process of really listening you might uncover information about a spouse that is sabotaging them, or emotional issues might be driving their food choices, an unconscious fear of being seen by the opposite sex if they are single, perhaps a fear of looking older. There can be many reasons, conscious and unconscious, why people can’t reach their goals on their own. I must help them clarify their goals and take realistic steps to help them obtain those goals.

Is there a list of key symptoms or issues that you are helping your clients with?

I see people for a vast array of issues. With the addition of FSM, I have the ability to help so many more people. I have access to over 300 FSM protocols.

Mara how would you describe your core specialty?

Aside from my intuition and diverse skill set, it seems that my specialty has unintentionally become pain and stress relief. So many conditions and di-eases are accompanied by pain. Fibromyalgia, chronic disc issues, musculoskeletal issues, trigger points, headache, TMJ syndrome, IBS, sports injuries, and the list goes on. In case the readers are not aware, eighty per cent of dis-ease is a direct result of stress. By helping people create a stable state and reduce their stress we can help avoid dis-ease before ever it begins.

Why do people love working with you?

The main reason people like working with me is I put my whole heart into my work. I give it my all and I really care about seeing people get better. I may be aggressive in methodology, but I don’t like wasting time and people’s money. There is no greater joy in life than to alleviate someone’s pain or improve someone’s quality of life.

What do you like to do in your own life?

I just love being out in nature with my dog. Whether it’s hiking or just hanging out by the river or at the park. We spend a good amount of time at Mt. Ashland in the winter. Me skiing and Sage playing in the snow. When I travel, all I do is go to seminars and learn new things. The latest Dr. Joe Dispenza seminar was in Vancouver, Canada last February. I’ve also been to Portland three times since then for additional training on other subjects.

Mara, who have been some of your favorite inspirations and mentors for healing?

My biggest inspiration, teacher and fellow science nerd is Dr. Joe Dispenza. I am fascinated by the science behind alternative healing and the volumes of data he provides supporting the utilization of quantum physics in healing. Dr. Richard Bartlett offers an alternative way of accessing the quantum field to create an opening for healing as well. FSM guru Carolyn McMakin has been an amazing teacher in helping me look at the physical body in a different way. Most people are familiar with Dr. Bruce Lipton and Gregg Braden, the Teachings of Abraham, Lynn McTaggart, and the list goes on.

Mara, in your observation, how does healing happen?

In my opinion, people have to believe they can heal. Remember the statement “whether you think you can or cannot, you are right.” They did a study to see why orthoscopic knee surgery worked. Of the four procedures they performed, one being a placebo group, all the groups had the same success rate across the board. That shows us that it is the persons attitude and belief that creates the healing. There are numerous stories of people who were given a certain amount of time to live and died almost exactly when the doctors told them they would.

The mind/body connection is so much more powerful than most people can ever imagine. We are taught that we are limited beings and that only certain people experience miracles. I believe that we all have the innate ability to tap into the energy that makes miracles happen.

Can you share some recent customer testimonials with us?

My family and I have had Mara’s massage and also sessions in light therapy and microcurrent. She is a genius; I do not say this lightly. Besides being trained in a variety of healing modalities (all which complement one another) Mara intuitively zeroes in on the issue and works it right out of the body. After trying chiropractors and physical therapy, my spouse finally found relief from chronic back pain after working with Mara. She is a true healer as well as a compassionate and genuine human being.
– Max Lowen

Best massage I have ever had by far. My back felt so loose and good. Very nice lady. Never had someone put so much effort into trying to get me out of pain.
– Michael Goode

Mara is one of the best Massage Therapists/Energy Healers I have ever known. She thinks outside of the box to deliver a healing experience that is a mixture of many healing modalities. She is always learning and furthering her education. She introduced me to Frequency Specific Microcurrent, which led me to purchase two devices to use on myself and husband, under her guidance. Ask her about her Journey (Lucia) Light! You will be in for a treat!! Above and beyond, Mara has helped me more than words can express.
– Karin S.

My wife introduced me to Mara. I was always reluctant to try massage. After one massage, I was a believer! Mara has a way of finding and working out the kinks and knots in my back and neck that I didn’t even know existed. Mara is a gifted and Intuitive Healer. I like the Lucia Light and FSM treatments too. I always feel so much better after a healing session with Mara!
– Poppy

Mara, in my observation all of the skills you have collected, there is one common thread.

While I was on my scavenger hunt, I always had a vision of how all these modalities and techniques might work in concert. Little did I know how seamlessly everything would fit together. Like the fact that the Bio-Well, HRV and holistic nutrition all have foundations based on Chinese medicine. Or that I would have multiple ways to treat the same issue. Such as incorporating a light session with FSM and Cranial Sacral Therapy, and/or including Matrix Energetic or the Reconnective healing. Matrix shows up all the time when I’m giving massages. And running FSM while giving a massage can enhance the experience for my client as well as myself. I know I have just scratched the surface of exploring how these modalities can enhance each other. I’m so excited to see where this journey takes me.
