Matsiko Children’s Choir Perform on Tuesday, December 22 at 2:00PM at the Havurah Synagogue in Ashland

The Matsiko (“hope” in Swahili) Choir is made up of 25 orphaned and at-risk children from the remote bush villages of Uganda, East Africa. Through their personal testimonies of hope, inspiration, song and dance, this fantastic choir is traveling throughout the country to raise awareness for the world’s 600 million orphaned and at-risk children. The Matsiko children living the dream through educational sponsorship from International Children’s Network (www.ICNChildren.net ) will inspire all to reach for the furthest star of hope and promise.

Led by Choir Director, Sam Straxy (Uganda’s Coca-Cola Pop-star 3rd place finalist, and writer of many songs for Uganda’s National Theatre) Matsiko will sing upbeat and lyrical songs combined with energetic and authentic African drumming and dancing.

Ayala Zonnenschein, Havurah Program Director, says, “These children, ages 7 to 14, sing and dance with such passion and meaning that their hope-filled message will find its way right into your heart. You’ll be sure to find yourself singing, laughing, dancing–and forever touched by Matsiko’s message of love and hope. Last year the Ashland community filled the Havurah to hear these children and I’m hope this year will be no different.”

The concert is free and open to all. The Havurah is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland. Call 488-7716 for more info.
