Meniere’s

Ring, ring, buzz, buzz… oh no, spinning head!
If only this was a title to a children’s book rather that an affliction that affects millions of people worldwide. Ringing in the ear, dizziness and vertigo are common symptoms of Meniere’s disease. This is a condition of the inner ear that is often linked to a compromise of the craniocervical junction (CCJ). The CCJ consists of the top two bones of the neck atlas (C1), axis (C2) and base of the skull (C0). Often, this critical link is overlooked and goes undetected leading to a life of unnecessary misery. People who have suffered from any of the symptoms of Meniere’s disease, or have loved ones that have suffered, understand the debilitating nature of this condition.
There are some external mechanical tools that can help manage the intensity of the ringing or buzzing sound in the ears. Along with Epley’s maneuver which can sometimes help reduce or even alleviate bouts of vertigo. However, these don’t always resolve the symptoms because the underlying cause of the problem was never detected and/or corrected. Detection of a CCJ compromise affecting either the hydrodynamics of the cranial vault or interference to the nervous system is the first step on the road to recovery. Upon detection, we are able to identify the specific way each individual’s misalignment needs to be addressed to help restore the body’s ability to heal.
