I can’t think of any point in my lifetime where domestic violence has been brought into the public light more than right now. In may sound weird to say, but I personally want to thank the NFL players that have made this so…certainly I’m not thanking them for the terrible things they have done to their families, but thanking them because their atrocious acts have made so many people aware that domestic violence is a serious problem.
Unfortunately the Rogue Valley isn’t sheltered from this problem, but to help the local women and children dealing with it, Garrison’s Home Furnishings and Garrison’s Mattress Gallery are helping them be a little more comfortable. The Dunn House Shelter, a refuge that provides safe shelter and support services for local women and children trying to escape domestic violence, is getting a much needed mattress and furniture makeover, thanks to Garrison’s.
We have already delivered 10 brand new mattresses and two recliners, with future deliveries already in the works. The Goal: to replace every mattress in the Dunn House and address all of their furniture needs by the end of the year.
Garrison’s is not cutting any corners with the products we are donating to the Dunn House. All of the mattresses will be from Tempur-Pedic and Simmons Beauty Rest and the furniture will all be American Made and built to last.
The first delivery of furniture was a rather emotional moment for many of the women that volunteer their time to help the families that come to the Dunn House for safe refuge. Lots of hugs were exchanges and tears were shed as the Garrison’s delivery team replaced older, worn out beds with luxurious new mattresses.
“Women and children come to Community Works – Dunn House Shelter fleeing domestic and/or sexual abuse. Their lives are uncertain, and most have only the clothes on their back,” said Barbara Johnson, Director of Victim Services at Community Works. “The generosity of Garrison’s Home Furnishings/Garrison’s Mattress Gallery helps to welcome each person in a home-like setting, and brings much needed comfort and rest to women and children. These gifts directly help our residents sort through their lives with security and respite. Community Works is deeply grateful for Brian Garrison and his compassionate support.”
It truly is a treat to give back to the community that gives so much to us. We are proud to have been doing business is Medford over the last 8 years, and now we are proud to give the community of Ashland a more convenient place to buy a new mattress. We go to great lengths to take care of our community and you can rest assured we will go to great lengths to take equally great care of our new customers here in Ashland.
