There’s No “I” in Team

With another record month on the books, we have recently been approached a number of times from people wanting to know, “What’s the secret to your success?” Most of the inquiries were from other agents hoping to pick up a few pointers for improving their production, but a few were from local business owners. Dyan and I have never been shy about the way we run our business, and in our opinion, it all boils down to teamwork.

In many capacities, the teamwork surrounding our business is what helps it to flourish. Through years of transactions, we have found numerous team players who understand our style and really get the big picture. We have partnered with a handful of lenders, escrow officers, inspectors, and the like to form a powerhouse of competent and skilled professionals who assist us. We lift each other up and we each do our part to help the others’ jobs run more seamlessly. We rely on these professionals to do what they do and to do it well so our clients are best served.

We also partner with our buyers and sellers. When we are being interviewed for listings or being considered by someone to represent them as their buyer’s agent, we find ourselves asking them as many questions as they ask us. Over the years, we have worked hard to establish ourselves as professionals in this community, and there’s nothing we love more than to provide a service to our clients that is not only invaluable but also appreciated. As a seller, you are relying on us to know the market inventory, activity and trends. We keep a careful watch on inventory levels and guide you on value. When you call a Realtor, you are asking them to provide a service for you and get you a result. The brokers have dedicated their careers to knowing the ins and outs of our market, and there is no reason not to give you sound advice. What’s incredibly important is for you to not only listen to it but to rely on it and to use it to your advantage. You’re tapping into a reservoir of knowledge.

When representing buyers, there is an exchange of such intimate information, it’s essential to have a relationship built upon trust, and again, teamwork. Thanks to technology, the general public has access to any listing advertised on the MLS. The days of us packing around our paper version of the MLS inventory books are long gone. If you find something online, let your Realtor know you’re interested in it, instead of deciding they aren’t working hard enough for you because you found the property on your own. This is a team effort and nobody is perfect. We love working with buyers who are as committed to us as we are to them, knowing that together, we will find the best property.

With inventory at an all time low, we are seeing the value in having strong relationships among the other brokers now more than ever. We network on a regular basis, searching for properties that may suit our clients. We negotiate fiercely while remaining respectful and remaining aware of the common goal. It has been an incredible industry to be part of, and when you really stop to think about what it is that makes us successful, I believe whole-heartedly it comes down to some very simple things.

Mean what you say and say what you mean. If you don’t know the answer, say so. If you messed up and simply forgot to do something, own it. After 20+ combined years in this business, we know a fair amount about real estate, but when it comes right down to it, I don’t think our success today is because we have more experience. I think we are fair, we are kind, and we conduct ourselves with integrity. If you interview us for a listing and ultimately don’t choose us, that’s okay. If we start working together and later determine we aren’t as good of a fit as we all hoped, that’s okay too. We still want to pass you in the grocery store, say hello and be at peace around our past relationship. Sure, we don’t always understand or necessarily agree with every decision, but that doesn’t change the fact that we appreciate the opportunity given to us and would welcome another.

As we enter into the final months of the year, our real estate market continues to thrive. There are lots of buyers searching high and low for properties and many sellers who have started to consider more seriously about selling. We would love an opportunity to meet with you and see if we are a good fit. We feel we have a system in place that works well and also produces results. We would welcome an opportunity to implement it on your behalf.
