Re-Wire Your Habits Nancy Walsch Ashland Hypnotherapy

Nancy Walsch has over 10 years of experience as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and has extensive training in hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapping) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). She is a world traveler and has traveled to more than 30 different countries. She has co-facilitated spiritual workshops in many of those countries. Nancy also has twenty years of experience as a Registered Nurse and for seven years practiced a Chinese form of Marital Arts.  She uses these modalities, and her experience and knowledge, to facilitate successful outcomes for her clients. In today’s interview I speak with Nancy Walsch about her hypnotherapy practice here in Ashland, Oregon.

Hi Nancy, thanks for taking the time today to do this interview.

Thanks Shields, I’m happy to visit with you today. I feel that the LocalsGuide is such a great way to get to know about our amazing Ashland community, and I really love how it supports our local entrepreneurs. I have lived in Ashland for 20 years, and many times when I came back from a trip, I felt like I was coming home to a place where I could become rejuvenated and revitalized. I love this community and have really enjoyed being one of the local entrepreneurs.

You mention that being able to offer hypnotherapy and EFT was like going back in time helping all of those you could not as a nurse. Please say more.

Yes, when I was a Home Health Nurse in my 30’s, I saw elderly patients in their homes. I would take a history of their habits and lifestyle and often could see a direct correlation between their life long habits and the effect it had on them later in life – such as emphysema from smoking for many years, or heart disease from poor exercise and eating habits. I loved helping those patients the best as I could, but the damage had already been done. So when I finally had my own practice as a hypnotherapist, it felt like I was going back in time to help people before the permanent damage was done. Because I knew firsthand what could happen if things didn’t change. I deeply care about helping my clients make the changes that will affect and improve the rest of their lives

Let’s talk more about poor habits. If we know what kind of damage they can do, why is it so hard to change them?

It’s all the subconscious minds fault! Don’t get me wrong, our subconscious mind is amazing, and we wouldn’t survive without it. It takes care of our bodies, like growing a baby, healing a cut, or digesting our food. Things we don’t have to consciously have to think about. Also, our habits reside in our subconscious mind.  Most of our habits are beneficial, like driving, typing, and tying your shoes. Next time you dry off from a shower, try to do it a different way. You will be surprised at how much focus you need and how awkward it feels to do it a different way.  Our subconscious mind likes to help us conserve brainpower and not have to think and pay attention to all the steps it takes to do something we do regularly.   Due to the nature of habits and our subconscious mind, if we have established some poor habits, they tend to be hard to change. The subconscious mind doesn’t like us to try and do something differently, that takes a lot of brainpower.

What I consider poor habits are ones that aren’t beneficial to you over time, especially with your finances (not paying your bills on time), relationships (being late for appointments), or your health (smoking, drinking, overeating etc.).

The problem is that most people will try to stop a poor habit by sheer willpower.  And our willpower is no match for our subconscious mind. Especially when we are tired, frustrated, stressed, or just plain hungry. Not to mention by the end of the day, we tend to run out of our willpower. That’s why we often give up on our New Year’s resolutions. Now for the good news! Hypnosis and EFT are amazing in working with the subconscious mind to create new good habits and override the poor ones.  Once you have the subconscious mind on board, you don’t have to go up against it with your limited will power, and now can easily create some good habits.  I have been able to do that for myself, and I love helping my clients with this too.

Are habits always based in physical actions or can they also be habitual thought processes?

Habits can be both. We may not realize that the way we look at life, how we feel about ourselves, what we think of money or relationships, can all be habitual. Limiting beliefs can become habitual thinking that can have devastating effects on our lives. Most of my life, I have been a pessimistic thinker. Back in the early 90’s when I meet and married Neale Donald Walsch we had opposing belief systems. I thought, “given enough time, it will all fall apart” and his was “given enough time, it would all work out”. And it was then that I discovered through the Conversation with God books, that what we think and believe will create our reality. So, at that point, I was determined to change that limiting belief, because I liked Neale’s outcomes better!

Nancy, in your years of traveling the world with Neale, what were some of the most memorable experiences?

My seven years of martial arts helped me with both my mindset and endurance for being able to deal with all the challenges of the traveling.

And yes, Neale and I did do a lot of traveling. I got to go places that I never thought I would see, like China, Korea, Peru, Brazil, Russia, and all over Europe. Australia is where I got to be with the Koala Bears and I scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef. Feeding white baby cub lions with a milk bottle in South Africa was amazing, while I was visiting a very large lion reserve. I also got to Machu Pichu, and that was amazing.

Tell us more about the retreats you and Neale facilitated that helped to shape you now both as healer, and as a person.

The two of us facilitated many 5-day spiritual retreats. (Even one in Russia!) That’s where I learned that I had a nice soft voice and gift of intuition for leading guided meditations. I would often say something during the meditation that was just what someone needed to hear. Such as, in meditation I had them walking down a path and I had suggested that someone they haven’t seen for a long time is waiting for them. Afterwards, people would tell me that it was someone who had already passed on, like a grandmother or a parent, and it had a profound impact on them. One gentleman told me afterwards that his brother had been murdered 10 years earlier, and his murder had never been solved. He had carried around a lot of anger for years because of that. He said in meditation his brother visited him, said he was OK, put his hand on his heart and all the anger and pain was gone. He said it was a miracle and he was so thankful. I also discovered that Angels would sometimes be waiting for them to help them with something. In my life, I now work with Angels on a regular basis, and help others that are interested to do that as well. I feel that leading all the workshops over the years had really developed my intuition, compassion, and healing abilities.

Tell us why you became a hypnotherapist. What kind of education did you pursue in order to help others?

Even though all the traveling and workshops were really rewarding, it took a toll on our relationship, and eventually we divorced. Since I had been really good with all the guided meditations at the retreats, I knew I had a gift and wanted to pursue it further. By 2007 I had become a Certified Hypnotherapist. I also took Master level Neuro-linguistic Programing, and then soon after that, advanced levels of EFT. I’m a Member of the Guild of Energists, and I have continued to take further trainings to improve my skills. (Such as being able to do past life regressions with Dr. Brian Weiss.) Recently I became an Energy EFT Master Practitioner, and Modern Energy Tapping Professional, taught locally by Maria LiPuma, who is a wonderful instructor. Both trainings were developed by Silvia Hartmann in England. (You see Maria and I tapping in my office in the photo to the right) I really do love these tools and my spiritual work that helps make a difference in other people’s lives.

What would you describe yourself as being especially skilled at doing?

I feel that I am really good at meditation, hypnosis, and using my intuition. The tools and modalities that I have been trained in require these skills to be able to use them in a way that best serves my clients. I also feel that I have a gifted ability to be there for my clients, listening carefully to them, and intuitively knowing how to help them discover what is needed in their transformation. Often, it is all that is needed to help them assess their own wisdom and intuition, so that their solutions are truly right for them.

Because I am a grandmother, and I have struggled with similar challenges, my clients often say they feel safe and not judged, so they can relax and get the positive changes in their life that they want.

For those who are not familiar can you please give us an overview of hypnotherapy and the EFT techniques and how they work well together?

It’s a bit hard to give a short description of the two, but briefly therapeutic hypnosis is not like stage show hypnosis. It is a relaxation process that gets you into a wonderful relaxed state between wide-awake and asleep. You don’t have to worry about ever quacking like a duck, as you are aware and in control, but just more relaxed. Then, in that relaxed state you and your subconscious mind are more receptive to positive solutions. With the EFT, it works with your energy body while tapping on specific acupuncture points. It’s easy to learn, reliable and profoundly effective in getting all sorts of amazing results, often very quickly! I find that the EFT can help clear limiting beliefs, traumas, stress, cravings, insomnia, and more. Then after tapping I often use the hypnosis to add in new success beliefs and habits, so that they can get the change they want, easier and with more lasting results. Once I understand what results the client wants, I create a personalized self-hypnosis recording that they can listen to regularly, so that the repetition of the new messages becomes locked in. Some people wish that a hypnotist could just snap their fingers and all their problems are solved, and that just isn’t the case. But amazing things can happen very quickly to transform a person’s habits and challenges and facilitate lasting positive change.

Nancy, I understand you enjoy empowering your clients with tools and knowledge of how to take care of themselves. Also, dealing with stress is an important part of your job. How are you helping your clients to take better charge of their lives?

Yes, that is a high priority when working with my clients. EFT can quickly reduce stress, and it is a technique that empowers my clients to be able to use it in their own life, without relying on me. Like when a smoker stops smoking or someone who is wanting to lose weight, one of the challenges they have is that cigarettes or comfort food was a strong habitual way of coping with stress, upsets, and any crisis in their lives. If I don’t give them another way to cope, they will either go back to their original coping mechanism or take on a new one that could be just as bad for them. I share with my clients that EFT is an amazing healthy effective coping mechanism that only takes minutes to do and will help them deal with life challenges with much less stress.  It has truly helped me, and many of my clients in this way.

What are the most common topics you are helping people with?

I have had great success with people who want to:

  Stop smoking,

  Lose weight

  Overcome insomnia

  Clear past traumas.

  Reduce stress

  Deepen spiritual connections

An example of a person I helped with past trauma and enhanced performance issues was a woman who had fallen off a horse while competing. We were able to clear the trauma and then I had her repeatedly visualize winning her next competition. And she did win her next competition!

Also, with my love of working in the subtler spiritual realms, I really enjoy working with people that want to explore their past lives. This can give them great insight and solutions to the challenges they are having right now. I also help people develop their intuition so that they can learn to tap into their Inner Guidance and learn to trust it. Knowing to trust their decisions and get the guidance that is right for them daily, can make a huge difference in their lives.

Would you mind sharing some more feedback you have been receiving from you clients?

Of course, Shields, I’m happy to do so.

“Nancy guided me through an intense period in my life. I was dealing with some major addictions, weight issues, and depression. I am very grateful for the work that she did with me. Her hypnotherapy and EFT work gave me the tools for healing and transformation. She helped change my life! Her compassionate nature and patience in our sessions made me feel that I was being taken care of. She did not ever rush our time together and gave her energy to helping me. All of us need help from time-to-time. I found great help and comfort from working with Nancy.

Haven’t touched a cigarette since and feeling great! After the sessions and listening to the CD every night I have not even felt stressed or anxious. Having a strong desire to quit was a must, and the hypnosis was icing on the cake!”   Chris. M.  Medford

“I have felt very comfortable and safe with Nancy as she intuitively guided me. I have had some magical experiences in which I received the perfect guidance, which has allowed me to become more connected with my inner self and have an overall sense of greater peace with.  Thank you.” Sarah-Anne, T. Nancy you have been remarried for 9 years. You also have two grown sons and four beautiful grandchildren. What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love going to visit my two sons and my grandchildren. One family lives in San Diego and the other in Spokane.

I wish they lived closer, so I could see them more often. Family is important to me and I just went to Kansas over the 4th of July to a family reunion on my mother’s side.  I am proud to say we had over 120 people and 4 generations!

When I’m not working with my business, I am helping my wonderful husband Robert Arnot market his amazing video device that he has invented, called the AffinityCam. When we aren’t working, we love to walk our dog Sophie, go camping in our RV, and do some kayaking. I also love to garden and read.

How can readers learn more about working with you?  What’s the first step?

I offer free phone consultations, so the first step is to call me. If you call me, I can get a clearer idea about your specific concerns and needs, and what results you would like to achieve.
