Sheds Sheds Sheds! LLC. Custom Sheds Built Onsite
Since 2020, Shadrick Palatino has been quietly crafting some of the finest hand-built sheds in Southern Oregon. With a deep respect for craftsmanship, a strong connection to the outdoors, and a down-to-earth approach to customer service, Shadrick and his business, Oregon Shed, are helping people turn simple backyard structures into something much more: peace of mind, added space, and quality that stands the test of time. In this interview, we dive into his building process, his personal story from Alaska to Oregon, and why so many locals trust him with their next big (or small) backyard project.
What inspired you to start Oregon Shed and how did the journey begin?
I started building sheds originally as a subcontractor for Lowe’s, Costco, and Home Depot. I determined I could build a superior product at a better price, so my friend and I started building independently in Washington. When I decided to move to Ashland that was the birth of Oregon Shed. I also travel to service surrounding areas in Oregon. I have done projects in Bend, coastal Oregon, and northern Oregon.
What’s the general process when someone wants to build a shed with you?
It all starts with a phone call to Shad, which happens to sound a lot like shed, so that should be easy to remember! You can give me an idea of what the shed is for: maybe it’s a “tool shed” in disguise as a mini bar and lounge or storage for your collection of Hallmark Christmas bears. We talk about size, layout, and options like windows, siding, and door styles.
Once we’ve got the basics, I’ll give you a detailed quote. I’ll walk you through everything step by step so there are no surprises.
What are the main shed styles you offer, and what customizations are possible?
I offer three main base designs: the classic gable, barn-style, and modern lean-to. From there, we can discuss other customization options, like doors, windows, and siding. Whether you’re storing sports equipment or boxes full of things you can’t part with because, let’s face it, you truly believe you may want them someday, I can adapt the shed to fit your lifestyle and vision.
How long does it usually take to build a shed from start to finish?
For sheds under 120 square feet, which is most backyard sheds, I can usually build them in a single day — that is unless you or your neighbor set up a lawn chair and begin telling me the version of your last fishing trip, at the pace of Old Man and the Sea. Larger or more customized sheds take a bit more time, especially if we’re working on a slope, adding unique features. Still, I’m known for being quick without cutting corners. People are often surprised by how fast things come together.
Are permits required for sheds, and what should people know about HOA rules or local zoning?
Great question, and something folks often don’t consider early on. In many areas, sheds under 200 square feet don’t require permits, but it always depends on your local city or county. HOAs can have extra layers, rules about where the shed sits on your property, color schemes, roof pitch, etc.
What’s one of the biggest sheds you’ve ever built?
One of the largest was a 12 x 28 shed—basically a compact garage. We built it on an existing concrete pad, added extra reinforcement, and included wide double doors so they could roll in a small ATV. It’s amazing how versatile these buildings can be when you scale them up a bit.
What’s something most people don’t know about shed placement and local codes?
Most people don’t realize you can’t place a shed right up against your fence or property line. In a lot of counties, you’ll need at least 3 to 5 feet of clearance from the fence or other structures. It’s one of those small details that can derail a project if you’re not careful, but it’s something I always help clients navigate from the beginning.
What do you personally enjoy most about your work?
The freedom of owning and running my own business, hands down. I get to work outside, meet all kinds of people, and I enjoy the building process. I love talking with my customers, and seeing their finished project come to life is always rewarding.
You recently moved to Southern Oregon—what brought you here, and how has the transition been?
I moved down in 2023 from Tacoma, but I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska. In my early 20s, I came to Ashland and lived here for a couple of years. When I was looking for a better pace of life, and more access to nature, I felt drawn to return to Southern Oregon. I love being surrounded by rivers, lakes, forests, and mountains.
What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of work?
I’m big into fly fishing, especially with flies I tie myself. I just picked up a boat, so I’ve been exploring new spots on the water. I also play guitar. I’m a vegetable gardener and plant hoarder (according to a friend of mine). I enjoy hiking, mushroom hunting, cooking, and fermentation projects that ideally turn into bread or beer and not just material for my compost pile.
How do people usually find you—and what do they say after working with you?
Most of my business comes through word of mouth, and many customers also find me through Facebook Marketplace. People tell me they appreciate how smooth and stress-free the process is. They’re often surprised by the build quality and how much care goes into the little details.
Lastly, what would you say is the biggest benefit of having a well-built shed?
It’s more than just a storage box. A well-built shed gives you peace of mind. It adds usable space, boosts your property value, and often becomes something more—a workshop, a creative studio, a place to retreat. It’s part of your lifestyle. When it’s built right, it lasts for decades and adapts to your needs over time.
What’s the next step if someone’s interested?
Just give me a call and say as fast as you can, “Shad, I need a shady shed for sharp shovels.” We’ll chat about what you’re envisioning, and I’ll help you figure out the best path forward with no pressure.
