This month we welcomed several amazing new vendors! Allow us to introduce Uma Rose Pottery; Art Inspired by Nature.
Uma Rose was born in Southern Michigan, graduating as a 4 year student from Interlochen Arts Academy, where her love for ceramics blossomed. Surrounded by the beautiful wilderness of Northern Michigan inspired her to create the images of animals, birds, and flowers that adorn her cups, bowls, platters, vases, and garden art.
She continued at Albion College as an art major to focus on working with clay, primarily in the form of hand built pieces using various methods of firing. Once out of college and after 20 years of oil painting and being a florist, Uma returned to working with clay at the Ashland Art Center in Oregon. WIth the help of other seasoned potters, Uma learned how to create the highly textured surfaces of her pieces ,working with various glazes and the magic of wax-resist when trying to preserve the images. Uma worked and sold her pottery at the Ashland Art Center for many years.
Unfortunately, due the pandemic the art center was forced to shut down. There are resources in the area that provide clay and kiln firings, and many of the artists from the art center can continue to create their wonderful clay creations Uma is currently showing her pottery at the Ashland Artisan Emporium, booth 623.
