To begin with, Handyman Pro has built a strong reputation in Ashland and beyond. What do you think sets your company apart from others in the home improvement industry?
That’s a great question! I think what really separates us from many other local contractors is the size of our crew and the scope of our work. We’ve built long-standing partnerships with just about every type of subcontractor in the trades. They consistently give us top priority, which allows us to schedule jobs quicker and run jobs more efficiently than a smaller company. Together our in-house team and our outside partners are more than capable of taking on just about any kind of project that comes our way. We have many clients that have voiced their gratitude for our level of communication as well. We always return calls quickly, show up on time, send updates, and work side by side with clients to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Can you give us an overview of the services you are currently providing?
Sure! We build ADUs, additions, garages, garden sheds, greenhouses, saunas, pergolas, arbors, decks and fences. We install and replace doors, windows, and trim. We can repair and replace roofing. We can install concrete slabs and retaining walls. We perform complete remodels and renovations, including kitchens and bathrooms.We can install custom cabinetry, countertops, tile and flooring. We can repair and replace drywall. We work with paint and stain. We also have plumbers, electricians and HVAC experts that can get to you fast. The sky’s the limit!
Why are decks some of your favorite projects to do, and has there been a favorite or interesting deck you have recently built?
There are several reasons we like building decks! Number one, we’re very good at it! We’ve built hundreds of decks, so it’s kind of second nature now. Also, the decks we build are typically in a pleasant location, like a cozy backyard. The biggest reason, however, is the satisfaction of seeing how happy our clients are when we’re finished. It’s very rewarding, and we leave the job with a sense of pride in our craftsmanship. Right now we’re building a particularly difficult deck, two stories high on a steep incline. It’s going to require metal support posts approximately 22 feet long. It’s one of our most challenging deck projects ever!
Your team plays a crucial role in Handyman Pro’s success. Can you share a story about a time when your crew went above and beyond for a client?
We’re constantly going above and beyond for our clients. It’s just the nature of our business. Our guys work odd hours at times and I have a habit of adjusting invoices to accommodate financial situations. I often send the guys out to perform simple tasks at no charge, to help the community.
Home renovations often come with surprises. Can you recall a particularly unexpected challenge on a project and how your team handled it?
Sometimes I think I should have named the company “Cans of Worms!” One time we were hired to paint a ceiling 20 feet above an indoor swimming pool. In order to access it from an acceptable distance we built a complex scaffolding system within a very tight space, incorporating a large scissor lift and plenty of planking!
Running a successful business requires strong leadership. What leadership philosophies or strategies have you developed over the years?
Simply put, I just treat everyone the way I’d like to be treated. With respect, compassion and understanding. And plenty of love, of course!

If you could give one piece of advice to homeowners considering a major renovation, what would it be?
Take your time, don’t rush. There are so many cool new ideas to incorporate into design these days. We have expert design staff ready to help you plan your project. Don’t try to do it all yourself, or you may be missing out on some brilliant ideas!
