Summer with Ashland Parks & Recreation

As summer winds down we find ourselves looking toward autumn as we scurry around lining up our fall programs, which will begin in early September. As a kickoff for the fall season we are once again hosting the Ashland Recreation Fair at The Grove, 1195 E. Main St. in Ashland, where you can Register for Fun! This season’s fair will take place on Saturday, August 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and not only will you be able to register for our programs, but you can win prizes, meet our instructors and other local recreation providers. This event, although for all ages, will be geared toward kids and families! And, we are bringing the Ashland Yogurt Hut, Dynamic Living, LLC, and ScienceWorks on board to help us out! The Yogurt Hut is breaking out with kids’ karaoke, a mascot for kids, create-a-cup activity, and offering samples of their healthiest yogurt, Sweet 8.  With only eight ingredients and only eight calories per ounce, this no-fat, no-cholesterol, naturally fructose-sweetened treat is perfect for most people who are diabetic or lactose intolerant (made with whey protein). Kids, when you are finished decorating your create-a-cup with stickers, glitter and googly eyes, you will get a $1 off coupon for the Yogurt Hut – then you can head on over to Garfield Park (just across from The Grove) and take part in interactive games with Dynamic Living, LLC. Then, head back to The Grove for hands-on activities with ScienceWorks!

Did you know that the Ashland Parks & Recreation Department publishes three recreation guides per year? Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall guides are direct mailed to all Ashland and Talent households. In addition, the guides are available online at www.ashland.or.us/RecGuide, with direct registration links (from your computer, smart phone or iPad) to Parks & Rec programs that require registration.  And speaking of registration… did you know that you can register yourself for most of our programs? Visit our website at www.AshlandParksandRec.org and click on the “Register Now” button. If you don’t already have an account set up, it’s easy to do, but if you need a little help you can always call our friendly staff at the main Parks and Rec office at 541.488.5340 or at the North Mountain Park Nature Center at 541.488.6606. Ashland Parks And Recreation

The City of Ashland Parks & Recreation (APR) Department was established to provide recreational opportunities to improve the quality of life for area residents and visitors. Our goals are to strengthen the community fabric and sense of place for youth, adult, and visitor populations; to promote health and wellness; to foster human development; to increase cultural unity and to protect our valuable natural resources. APR meets these goals through preserving, maintaining, and enhancing our recreational facilities, parks, and open spaces while also coordinating engaging programs, classes, public events, and festivals.
