Rick Steber, Acclaimed Author of 29 Books, Coming to SOU

(Ashland, Ore.) “Fireside Stories: Bringing the West to Life,” is the theme of Rick Steber’s presentation scheduled for October 28, 2019, 4 p.m., in the Meese Room (#305) of Hannon Library at Southern Oregon University. Part of the 2010-2011 Friends of Hannon Library lecture series, this program promises to be entertaining. Steber will talk about and read from his books.

Steber writes about the people and landscapes of the west. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, and he has served as advisor for the U.S. Department of Education regarding national educational standards for American history. He is committed to preserving history for future generations. A colorful personality, Rick Steber has been the featured speaker at national and international conferences and banquets; he has the ability to bring characters to life as he tells a story, which he will do for us at this event.

This past May, Steber received the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Award for Best Regional Fiction for his newest novel, Secrets of the Bull. Past awards include the Favell Museum Western Heritage Award, Benjamin Franklin Award, Mid-America Publishers Book Award, and Oregon Library Association Award. An alumnus of SOU, Steber writes from a cabin in the Ochoco Mountains of Central Oregon.

A book signing will follow the program. The program is open to the public. Admission is free.
