Busy Planting for Spring

Ashland Greenhouses would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and are very excited for another year of gardening!  January may seem gloomy at times but inside the greenhouses it’s sixty degrees or more. We are busy planting thousands of plants and baskets each week from now until mid-May.  I encourage you to come out and see how much the greenhouses fill up within the next few weeks.  It is always amazing how quickly it changes.

We’re usually fortunate enough here in Southern Oregon to have a few days or more of sunny weather that allows us to get out into our gardens.  On these days it’s a great time to plant primroses, pansies, and perennials.  For the best success when planting during January you will want to make sure the plants don’t get stressed.  Our pansies, primroses, and perennials are acclimated to the outdoor temperatures so they are fine to be planted immediately, however you’ll want to pay close attention to watering needs.  Plants do not typically take up as much water during the winter so make sure and water only if the roots are truly dry.

We’ve been planting perennials since last October and have some great varieties available now and many more becoming available each week.  We planted just over 70,000 perennials and herbs for the 2015 season and are very excited about growing so many varieties. We appreciate your feedback each year as to what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d like us to grow more of in hopes of fulfilling your gardening needs each season.  As a result we’ve increased our supply of succulents and herbs to name a few.  Every week we will have more and more perennials and annuals becoming available as they mature so make sure and come by to see what’s new.  You can also view our current availability on-line by visiting our website:  www.ashlandgreenhouses.com

We’ll re-open for the year Monday, January 12th, and will be open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.
