Celebrating July!
July is an amazing month. Our gardens are really starting to take off and there is so much to celebrate. Just walking around my own garden spaces, I am overjoyed to see my strawberry beds full of beautiful fruit and blossoms, my sunflowers happily turning their gorgeous faces to the sun, and everything alive with pollinators. Even the hottest days can’t keep me from working in my vegetable garden and gathering flowers from my cut-flower beds. I’ve really concentrated on adding more perennials to my spaces which has saved me a great deal of time so that I can concentrate on the areas that may need more attention this time of year.
For the most part my own spaces are always evolving. I love to tuck herbs, colorful annuals and fun garden art amongst my flowers and vegetables. I have bee water areas and bird baths as well. Having a safe place for pollinators to land and get hydrated is not only beneficial for them but it helps attract and keep them in your spaces. We carry a large selection of plants that are great for attracting pollinators. Come on out and we can help you put together a beautiful selection of plants to build a pollinator garden or to plant amongst your existing areas or vegetable garden.
Going into July a lot of us are worried about our water usage. Whether you have access to irrigation, a well, or just water from the city, it is always smart to think ahead and use your water wisely. Here at Ashland Greenhouses, we grow several drought-tolerant plants that can be incorporated into your gardens to help ease the burden of using too much water. Gaillardia, Russian Sage, and Yarrow are just a few examples of popular plants that have lower water requirements. They will tough it out during those HOT summer days and attract tons of bees as well!
As we end our spring season here at the Greenhouses and move into summer, we are still adding more stock.
