From the Greenhouse: Happy December!

Our third annual Poinsettia Festival was a great success and we had a wonderful time with everyone who was able to make it!  Thank you to all of our fantastic vendors who helped make it a festive experience; Jeanne’s Jackets and Christmas Jewelry, Donna D’s Delicacies & Delights, Eden’s Jewelry, Paparazzi Accessories, Cliff Creek Cellars, Willow’s Pressed Flowers & Magnets, Rogue Valley Roasting Co., and Soap Dreams.  Each year I am amazed at the community involvement of this event from both customers and vendors. I love how happy everyone is to join in the festivities taking time to peruse the poinsettias and vendor booths, snapping pictures of the poinsettias and visiting with everyone.  It really is a great time for all of us at Ashland Greenhouses and we appreciate all of you who make it happen!

The poinsettias have been flying out the door. Here are a few reminders for everyone who wants to keep their poinsettias lovely and thriving through the holidays.

• Water the plant deeply as soon as if feels light. Repeat when plant feels light again. Be sure to remove foil when watering for proper drainage.
• There is no need for any fertilizer at this time.
• It is best to give the plants as much natural light as possible.
• Keep them out of a draft.

Many people don’t realize that we are open year round except for two weeks in December. We always have something growing and/or ready for sale. We still have plenty of poinsettias in different colors and sizes available, as well as cyclamen in varying shades. Get them before December 18th when we close for the holidays.

Coming up next month:

The Ashland Greenhouse crew has been planting perennials since October, and our first batch of January pansies, and primroses.  We’ll have a nice selection of these starting in January.  We will also have a few of our cool weather veggie starts ready too.

Thanks for making it a great year!
