Summer Flowers

Is it hot enough yet? Let me guess, you said yes. I’m always amazed at the toughness of some of our customers this time of year. They make their way out to the greenhouses to take a peek around, see what we might have and replace what may have went belly up in their garden. Or, they may be soon entertaining company and want to brighten things up a bit. We do offer solutions to your summer doldrums. This month we freshen some of our perennials that we offer during the spring. Many of these items are definitely sun tolerant. We all are a little sun tolerant to live in the Rogue Valley. Look up! We have a new batch of summer baskets of mixed annuals. Calibrachoa mix baskets align our basket poles with nice summer color. We also see a few folks coming around to see what they might do to spruce up their house for a boost in real estate value for a summer sale. We plan to have new rounds of calibrachoa that plant well with other annuals to make nice borders or planter boxes. Sedums are another popular plant that is hard to kill. Think of a weed, only prettier. Certain varieties like the hens and chicks can find their way into rock crevices around your water feature, get ignored, and continue to flourish. My kind of plant! Of course there are the rudbeckias and gaillardias to sharpen any garden bed. Is there another flower that screams summer like the Black Eyed Susan? We have a nice selection of them in 4’’ pots or gallons. The greggii salvias are a popular choice to bring in that rich red or violet color. And talk about pop! Looking for fragrance? Herb is the word. Oregano, rosemary and lavenders are here and add another dimension to your garden beyond the visual. These are just a few items you’ll find here in July. And if you are one who chooses to brave the heat and make it out here, there is almost always a breeze that picks up in the afternoon and cuts across our retail area. We hope you are enjoying your summer and that we see you soon!
