Shields, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with numerous exceptional clients, and we appreciate their willingness to spread the word about their positive experiences with us. We prioritize quick responses to project requests and strive to maintain open communication throughout the entire process. Our approach involves treating everyone fairly, upholding our integrity, and working efficiently and productively. We are not your average construction company. Yes, that’s true! We have many commercial clients in Ashland such as Noble Coffee Roasting Company, Science Works, Peerless Hotel, Blue Giraffe Spa, Posh Organics, Soundpeace and more. Additionally, we frequently cater to various businesses in the Rogue Valley such as United States Post Offices, Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Round Table Pizza, and Subway.

Our team is massive! I oversee the daily tasks and manage the coordination and organization of operations. My daughter Sunshine is in charge of handling all of our calls and data in the office, as well as efficiently completing tasks for the rest of the team. We have a reliable crew who are assigned to work on decks, fences, and similar projects. Additionally, we collaborate closely with numerous subcontractors. Welburn Electric and Bear Creek Electric handle all our electrical requirements, while F&S Plumbing and Scott Fitch Plumbing take care of our plumbing projects.
We’re thankful to work with great companies such as Jahnke heating and Air, Monticello Tile, R&K Concrete Mafia, Jam Roofing, MJ Roofing, Ashland Custom Builders, Mastercraft Wood Floors, Completely Floored, Cody Jones Granite Designs, Nicolas Ansel Welding, Action Irrigation, Canopy and Divine Domains. Handyman Pro offers a comprehensive range of services. Can you please break it down for us?
Wow. Where do I begin? We receive inquiries about projects of all sizes and types. We do our best to accommodate most requests. Most of our projects focus on renovating kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces, but we also take on a significant number of deck and pergola projects.
Each year, we frequently replace and install doors and windows, as well as complete numerous repairs involving drywall, paint, and stain.
We’ve vetted all of our subcontractors, and connect our clients with skilled and reliable services such as tile setting, concrete and stone work, roofing, cabinetry, flooring installation and refinishing, countertop installation, welding, landscaping and irrigation, tree work, and design. We have the tools, experience and connections to make things happen!
Shannon, what do you love most about the work you do on a day-to-day basis here in the Rogue Valley?
I love playing the hero! Helping people fix their broken belongings is highly satisfying, and it is equally gratifying to enhance someone’s living environment to make it more welcoming. However, the actual tasks involved in this work are only part of the picture. Seeing our clients happy brings me great joy, and is definitely my favorite part of the work we do.
2023 was a huge year for Handyman Pro. What was your favorite project?
Yes, it was a very busy year! We completed a full home renovation project that cost $700,000 and took us more than a year to finish. The owners are some of the kindest people I’ve ever met, it was a great experience!
Moving into 2024 what are some of your goals for Handyman Pro?
I’m glad you asked! We’re shifting from relying on employees to using more contractors, collaborating on bigger projects and facilitating connections. We’re also exploring the idea of launching a sister company, such as Remodel Pro or Construction Pro. I’m very excited to see what the future holds.

What is the job that we might not expect Handyman Pro does but that we should absolutely call you all to do?
That’s a great question! When I named the business, I wanted the word “Handyman” in it to attract projects that were different each day, because I enjoy working on many different kinds of projects as opposed to doing the same thing every day. I added the word “Pro” to hint that we’re more than just a handyman company. Due to the diverse range of tasks we undertake, we are naturally drawn to the field of remodeling, which also demands a wide variety of tools and expertise beyond what a typical contractor possesses. We also handle the construction of durable decks and pergolas made from high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship. Feel free to contact us for any project you have in mind!
What are a few jobs we should not attempt to do on our own, but Handyman Pro can totally do? Please talk about licensing and such when it comes to hiring the right person.
Anything structural is a big one. We have the resources to construct things in a safe manner, let us connect you with the Valley’s leading experts in the field! I also strongly advise people to hire professionals for plumbing and electrical projects. Frequently, even minor repairs that are not done correctly can result in costly consequences, including financial losses or even fatalities. In Oregon, those without the proper licensing are prohibited from completing this type of work. Additionally, regular construction contractors do not have plumbing or electrical insurance, leaving you vulnerable to accidents if you hire an unlicensed individual from online platforms like Nextdoor or Facebook. It’s not worth the risk! Besides that, just because a regular contractor has insurance, a lot of the time they only purchase the bare minimum to keep their overhead down. There’s a good chance the contractor you’ve hired has insurance, but not the coverage needed for your specific project. It’s very important to look at their insurance policy to verify you’re covered. This is probably the biggest mistake people make when hiring a contractor.
Finally, in your years of experience doing the work you do, what advice do you find yourself continually returning to?
That’s easy! Take plenty of time to think about your options. Before investing your money in a project, make sure to thoroughly research and ensure that you are getting exactly what you desire. Seek guidance. Collaborate with your partner, friends, and family to come up with ideas. Consider hiring a designer. Wait a bit and save up for the items you really want.
