July Gardening – More Sun and the Summer Breeze

I love summer… and so do our plants. I’m often asked if you can plant trees, shrubs and flowers in July. The easy answer is… Yes. Once again, I’m going back to my favorite phrase… “It’s all about the soil… not the sun.” Summer success, guaranteed… as long as you follow these recommendations for most plants.

1) Dig a hole twice the width of the original container and no deeper.

2) Amend your native soil from the hole, by mixing our Bumper Crop (All Natural & Organic) Soil Amendment half & half with the soil you dug out of the hole. This will make a great transition mixture, your plant roots will love for a quicker, healthier start.

3) Also add our Bumper Crop (All Natural & Organic) plant food into the backfill mixture. It feeds your plant and your soil, lasting longer than synthetic fertilizers.

4) Assuming you have adequate water and regular timing, your plants will thrive when you follow these steps.

July is the time to color up your backyard for summer BBQ’S… and we can help. Patio planters and select summer flowers… are now 20% Off. Many of our favorites listed are what we call pollinators because the hummingbirds, bees, & butterflies are in love with them.

If you need more shade… we have that too. All shade, flowering and conifer trees are now 20% off. Did you know that USDA studies show air conditioning energy savings of 5% or more by placing shade trees in strategic locations around your home.

Another one of our specialties here is our Jurassic conifer Garden… rare & distinct plants. Conifers are often overlooked because they don’t flower. Huge mistake in my opinion because they look great all 12 months of the year, while flowering shrubs look their best only when they flower for 3-4 weeks a year and definitely not in the winter. The character, texture, color and even the aroma of these rare plants can be spectacular when planted in combination with other flowering trees, shrubs and flowers. I get questions like, “what is that,” when people see these unusual plants because they stand out in the crowded garden.

If any of these ideas stimulate your senses or if you find yourself just desiring fresh air and country views…

Come on let’s go… you’ll be glad you did!

We would love to share all our July favorites with you… and we’ll be glad you came.
