Hello Ashland! I am Dr. Dana Nguyen Schmidl, your friendly neighborhood orthodontist. My family and I moved to the Rogue Valley a little over three years ago in pursuit of a better quality of life. After enduring years of long commutes, traffic, and most importantly, time away from our kids, we decided to find a new place to put down roots. When Dr. Barry Katzen retired, I purchased his orthodontic practice and am continuing his legacy of providing exceptional care to Ashland and this amazing valley that we now call home.
With over a decade of experience in the exclusive practice of orthodontics, I have brought beautiful smiles to thousands of patients. After receiving Bachelor’s degrees in Neuroscience and Biology from the University of California, Riverside, I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 2004. I continued on to Loma Linda University for my orthodontic residency and earned a Specialist Certificate & Master’s degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
As the saying goes, “Smile and the world smiles too.” The power of a smile is truly undeniable. I am so grateful to be a part of my patients’ lives as I see their smile and image transform. I incorporate the latest advances in orthodontic treatment techniques and dental research to create healthy, beautiful smiles. I specialize in early intervention methods and implementation of orthodontic devices which can eliminate the need for tooth extractions or jaw surgery. As both an orthodontist and a mom, I strive to address all of my patients’ concerns with thorough explanation, gentle care, and a meticulous attention to detail. I approach being an orthodontist the same way I approach everything in life—with passion and determination, while having lots of fun along the way!
I was born in Vietnam and grew up in southern California. My husband Joe and I have two wonderful kids, Quinn (7) and August (5). They keep us smiling every day. In my free time, I love hiking, traveling, playing tennis, watching superhero movies, eating desserts, and playing board games with family and friends.
