The Days of Our Lives
I have to wonder how many people reading this remember that soap opera. I had the privilege of being raised in a household with a stay-at-home mom, or as my kids call it now, a “home mom.” My mother rarely was seen taking time to herself; on the very few occasions she had time to watch TV, The Days of Our Lives was her go-to. When you pause and think for a moment about the title, it makes you realize Our Lives are just made of Days, which are made up of small moments.
It feels like it has been a hot minute since we have written about our private lives and the days that are turning into the past few years. Truth be told, when the idea was presented to us to start writing a monthly column about real estate and our personal journey, we quickly disregarded the idea. It ended up being a tough pill to swallow; I guess we didn’t trust the community to be so supportive and invested.
The Lanes’ oldest child is now 16 years of age and fully driving. She has her first boyfriend and although it is something her dad and I wanted to avoid until she was about 25 years of age, this chapter has been so bittersweet. We have enjoyed talking with her about all the expectations that go along with dating, how to balance remaining true to yourself, splitting time between the boyfriend and the friends and protecting her heart. Let’s be honest, that girl is totally rocking this chapter.
The Lanes’ youngest just started 6th grade and is officially a middle schooler. I couldn’t speak higher of this kid. He has the most tender heart, continually asks deep questions and genuinely loves people. You know the kind of love most people are afraid to experience. He loves all things sports and gets straight A’s in every subject.
We share all of this with you because you have been such a sounding board and an inspiration in our lives. Time and time and again, we have had clients enter our lives that have shared such a great piece of advice, a laugh and/or a story that has gotten us through the days of our lives. As we enter into the last quarter of the year 2024, we reflect back. Our primary goal was to have clients in our lives that we could really help, that we would enjoy working with and that would leave an impact on our heart. I have to say 2024 has been filled with the best people. And I think our team has attracted the cream of the crop, because we aren’t afraid to be real; or to find the story behind the story. Our community has always met us right where we are at; and in return it is easy to return the favor.
