Bat Boy Opens Soon at the Oregon Cabaret

On September 22nd, the Oregon Cabaret Theatre opens Bat Boy: The Musical, the cult classic ripped straight from the supermarket tabloids.

A half-man, half-bat is discovered in a cave by the locals of Hope Falls, Oregon and brought to live with the family of the town veterinarian. In the months that follow, Bat Boy learns to speak perfect English by watching Masterpiece Theatre and finds a home with his new family – but his dark past threatens to ruin a budding romance and his future in Hope Falls.

Featuring a cast of local and out-of-town talent, Bat Boy: The Musical comes at the perfect time of year as we head into the fall months. Bat Boy is an American musical with a book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming and music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe (composer and lyricist for Legally Blonde: The Musical), based on a June 23, 1992 Weekly World News story about a half-boy, half-bat, dubbed “Bat Boy”, who grew up living in a cave. Bat Boy premiered at Actors Gang Theatre in 1997 and has since been produced off-Broadway, in London’s West End, at the Edinburgh Festival and in scores of productions throughout the world.

Bat Boy: The Musical brings back OCT veterans Jonathan Hoover (Altar Boyz) as Edgar, OCT Artistic Director Valerie Rachelle as Meredith Parker, Galloway Stevens (Cabaret, 9 to 5, Chicago) as Dr. Parker, Stephen Kline (The 39 Steps, A Christmas Carol) as Sheriff Reynolds, Tony Carter (Musical of Musicals the Musical) as Rick Taylor, and Lucas Blair (Dames at Sea) as Bud. Local actors Nathan Monks and Kristen Calvin make their Cabaret debuts, as does Southern Oregon native Amanda Andersen.

Bat Boy: The Musical previews Thursday, September 22nd at 8:00 PM before opening on Friday, September 23rd at 8:00 PM. Starting on October 12th, it plays in rep with The Rocky Horror Show. Bat Boy closes on Sunday, November 6th. For tickets, visit oregoncabaret.com or callĀ 541.488.2902.
