Blessed are the Peacemakers
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” – Edmund Burke
Instead of pouring time into a space reserved for our thoughts on the current real estate trends, we are dedicating this space to those who paid the ultimate price. Five men lost their lives to a coward who targeted them for being police officers. It’s disgusting and it breaks our hearts.
So while we put on our game faces like women often do, holding together over a dozen escrows, negotiating new deals and interviewing for listings, our true work was done behind closed doors. We leaned on each other knowing the last thing ‘they’ needed was to be worried about us, so we secretly cried in our closets in fear that our husbands would be targeted that day and not come home to their families. We held our homes together, so our husbands could be present for their fellow officers – providing support to the men and women of blue who were feeling emotions they were never supposed to have. We held our children and hoped they wouldn’t see the news, to learn these daddies were targeted simply because they were cops. We prayed over them and for each other, knowing their outrageous behavior in the last couple of weeks is directly related to the stress our kids are feeling but can’t begin to comprehend, while also trying to remind ourselves we really weren’t the worst mommies in the world because we were at our wits’ end.
Having total confidence in our husbands’ abilities to read situations, prepare for the worst and face the ugliest of criminals, we have rarely been scared for them to suit up and head out to their shifts. But to see firsthand that the five victims of the Dallas were ambushed, and no amount of training would have prepared them for that incident, it has scared us in ways we didn’t know were possible. We pray for your compassion and your grace as we navigate a route we have never taken, and ask you to pray for the safety and security of our cities, counties, and nation.
