What are you glad about?
Anna and I (now in our 46th season) recently watched Pollyanna. What a classic.
We have concerns about what’s happening in our country and around the world. Taking a break from the news can help but ignoring it – doesn’t. As a country we are in unchartered waters. I have a long list of things I’m frustrated with and have legitimate fears.
But like Pollyanna, I need to stop and be grateful for what we do have and seek out the good news.
There is a saying, “It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you deal with it.” We have a mortgage, insurance and real estate tax bills, utility bills, maintenance costs and the ongoing “surprise” of the need for a plumber or electrician. It can be a grind. If I focus only on the home as a burden. And yet, we have a nice home, a beautiful yard, a view of vineyards, and shaded areas to sit in chairs and relax in. We have our own little bit of sanctuary.
When I think of home, I think of it as a retreat, a haven. Today, we all need safe spaces. Recently, I’ve seen many homes for sale in the Rogue Valley that each offer a peaceful place. Many homes have these spaces; you just need to look. So the next time you are looking at homes for sale, look deeper and find the corner of the yard, or a chair near a window, a walking path, a place you can call yours.
Now you need to buy it! First step, meet with me. I find it silly that so many transactions are done by phone and text. If we can meet, we should! Let’s talk financing options, let’s get you fully approved, not just prequalified. Then get a great realtor. Read their reviews. Be sure you are working with an agent who works with buyers. There are many agents who specialize in either listing or selling. Some do both well, but many have a focus. Find the right agent.
And don’t forget you can create your “space” – a small fountain, a trellis, a comfy chair. Find your calm. It’s a storm out there.
