Le Cirque Centre

Lorenzo has been quoted as saying that the last article I ran about him literally overwhelmed the Le Cirque Center with so much interest that they had to add 3 encore performances to keep up with the demand. I like to think that I helped in promoting the event, but the truth is that immediately after the performance people began lining up and asking Lorenzo, "When are you going to do it again, what's next, and how can I participate?"

Have you ever wondered why some people get more wrinkles than others? Why some people seem to age faster and show early signs of aging? There are many factors that can contribute to rapid aging—how we have treated our bodies in the past and how we treat them presently. Not a Salesman

Many patients ask me, “Do I need a _______ (filling, crown, root canal, etc.)?” I could jump on the opportunity to make a sale and tell them, “Yes, absolutely!” But I have found that I prefer to educate people and let them make a decision that makes sense for them. I start by helping my patients understand that teeth are not necessary. There are millions of people with no teeth at all. And they live good lives. Once people understand that teeth are optional, we can talk about priorities, preferences – what they want and desire for their dental health. I ask lots of questions so I can learn about what people value and what their goals are.

Peace House Hosts Annual Empty Bowls Supper

Empty Bowls is a heartfelt concept that started 22 years ago in a Michigan as a way to increase awareness about food scarcity through education and creativity. It is now an international movement. Originally, teacher John Hartom inspired his high school students to create ceramic bowls that would later be sold at a soup supper, with profits going to local food banks. Since then, millions of dollars have been generated to feed hungry people in communities world wide. The basic recipe is simple: Potters work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are invited to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world and as a reminder of how they helped make a difference for people within their community. The money raised is donated to local organizations; Peace House’s Uncle Food’s Diner, Food Angels and Access all who are working to end hunger and food insecurity. The mission is to create positive and lasting change through the arts, education, and projects that build community.

Brian and Lisa Dunagan Ashland Wine Cellar

For over 32 years the Ashland Wine Cellar has provided specialty and fine wines to wine lovers in Ashland. Last year long-term owner and founder Lorn Razzano sold the business to Brian and Lisa Dunagan, who now carry on the tradition. On top of re-organizing the vast collection of wine, Brian and Lisa have stocked up on more local wines than you can count. They also have updated the space to provide a warmer feel, better lighting, a unique wine tasting and sitting area, and soon-to-be installed beautiful cork floors. I stopped by to learn more about the every expanding world of wine.

Sotheby's in Southern Oregon Scott Ralston, Principal Broker

If your home is one of your most valuable assets wouldn’t it make sense to have it represented as such? Introducing Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty and local representative Scott Ralston. When we hear “Sotheby’s” many of us will imagine spectacular images of priceless artwork, exquisite furniture items and antiques, all being sold at auction. Founded in 1744 Sotheby’s entered the real estate market in the late 1970’s. Today, with offices worldwide, Sotheby’s International Realty has become the world leader in the representation of luxury real estate. What’s the secret behind Sotheby’s global network of real estate services? Well, to begin with, whether selling a $200k or $20 million home the fundamental requirement is to find a qualified buyer. An ever-increasing percentage of homes purchased in the Rogue Valley are by non-local residents. Reaching out to global markets is the Sotheby’s difference. What’s hot about Ashland and Southern Oregon? I spoke with Scott Ralston to learn more.

Graceworks Eco-friendly Housecleaning Services Cleaning and Greening Homes and Businesses

Eric Grace began Graceworks Housecleaning Services five years ago with a focus on cleaning for a handful of clients with chemical and environmental sensitivities. Since then his business has grown and he now employs a team of five cleaners serving individuals and businesses throughout the Rogue Valley. His specialty is eco-friendly cleaning with careful attention to details, while using only non-toxic, green cleaning supplies. The result is homes and businesses that look beautiful, feel clean, and smell fresh, without the nasty effects of harsh chemicals and artificial additives that can negatively affect adults, children, and pets. I met with Eric to talk about his business, the care and attention he brings to every cleaning and the inspiration behind his growing company.

Will Volpert Indigo Creek Outfitters Rafting, Tours, and Vacations

/
It was the summer of 1986 when Will Volpert went on his first rafting trip. 25 years later and after tens of thousands of miles working on rivers throughout the west as a rafting and fishing guide, he opened Indigo Creek Outfitters, a rafting, tour, and vacation company based here in Ashland. Will has spent the majority of his life on the river. He grew up in a family of outfitters and spent his childhood summers floating Idaho’s Middle Fork and Main Salmon Rivers. Whitewater runs in his family’s blood – with nearly 40 years in the business, his parents continue to run Idaho & Oregon River Journeys, his younger brother Matt manages Kern River Outfitters, and the youngest brother Skip guides on rivers in Idaho, California, and Oregon. Will’s experience in the adventure tourism industry has shown through the success of Indigo Creek Outfitters. In January of 2013, Will added another tour to Indigo Creek Outfitters’ list of Southern Oregon excursions: Medford “On-Tap” Brewery Tours. I spoke with him on the phone to learn more about his passion for the outdoors, rafting, and how Indigo Creek has found itself in the middle of a booming craft beer industry.

Chronic Loss of Vitality: What is really going on?

Most everyone out there seems to have a condition that has lingered on for years. Migraines, digestive issues, pain, insomnia, fatigue are among the challenges that people describe when they come into our office. When I first entered into practice it was exciting that people felt great when they left the office, but what I quickly discovered was that people were coming back a few months later presenting with the same issues. As a Chiropractor and facilitator of health I wanted to get down to the root cause. This led me on a quest to explore different technique systems and approaches that would specifically address the underlying cause. I found 2 powerful techniques in my studies. NUCCA ( National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) and KST ( Koren Specific Technique) which both have made significant changes in my life. Since joining Wellspring Centre for Body Balance, Dr. Jordan Weeda and I have discovered that blending these techniques together creates profound changes in our patients.

Women’s Health: Nourishing the Blood

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is essential to balance and nourish a woman’s blood throughout her life. Our blood is filled with essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. It is the very substance that sustains and gives us life. Women loose a great deal of blood throughout the course of their lives, during menstruation as well as during childbirth. Even though these are natural processes, they can be very taxing on a woman’s body. Without replenishing the blood, women can easily become depleted and out of balance.

Your body is wise…and Midwives honor this wisdom!

The experience of birthing begins and ends in the body. Its wisdom guides the birthing process to completion. Notwithstanding the power of the mind and spirit to influence this work, the body grows and births a baby. In our culture, much traditional knowledge and wisdom of the workings of the body has been lost. Elsewhere, that knowledge has been preserved and the wisdom passed down. Arvigo Techniques Maya Abdominal Therapy is a modality which combines traditional Maya abdominal massage techniques with Western structural manipulation. Maya Therapy can profoundly impact the quality of pregnancy and birt
