Whether you are an avid gardener or just getting started, the month of May is an exciting time. For us here at the Greenhouses, it’s GO time! Our plants are exploding with growth and color. Our vegetable starts are being stocked every day and our incredible hanging baskets are gorgeous! It’s been wonderful welcoming back our regular customers and meeting so many new plant lovers that have discovered the Greenhouses for the first time.
In Southern Oregon, May is a great time to plant warm season vegetables, once the danger of frost has passed. Our selection of warm season vegetables looks amazing! We have several varieties of vegetables and a large variety of herbs – everything you need to have a productive and beautiful culinary garden. My favorite varieties of tomatoes that we carry here are the delicious “Super Fantastic” for sandwiches and salads. I grow “Sun Gold” and “Sweet 100” cherry tomatoes together and enjoy snacking on them all summer. If you make your own salsa, our bright “Lemon Boy” tomatoes with the very popular “Super Chili” make a super tasty and colorful salsa.
Our perennials are doing incredible and are being stocked with gorgeous selections every day. Having a mix of perennials and annuals in your garden means you can have continuous color and blooms all season. A few of my favorite perennials are Geum, Rudbeckia, Guara, and Salvias. Planting colorful annuals amongst your perennials adds depth, texture, and bright colors everywhere. A few that do well in my very sunny hot front yard are Marigolds, Skyscraper Salvias, Lantana, and of course, I plant as many Zinnias as I can.
Join us at the Greenhouses on May 21st at 10:00 am for our “Heat Lovers Class,” where you will learn about combining fun and colorful choices to get amazing results through the hottest season.
Here at the Ashland Greenhouses, you can shop for gorgeous plants as well as fun metal garden art, seeds, fertilizers, soil, and pest control options. Our selection of pots includes different sizes and colors as well as deck rail boxes and window boxes. We are open Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
