New Year, New Plants

Happy New Year! Are you as excited to get into your gardens as we are? We have been planting thousands of perennials since October. A bunch will be ready for planting as soon as we come back from our winter break on January 10th. It is nice to have some relaxing time off, but we are anticipating a great year ahead! We picked out several new plants to grow this year, and we are excited to see how they do. We will have new annuals and vegetables as the season progresses, but here is a sneak peak of some of our new perennials to look out for:

 • Agastache Arizona Mix

 • Lychnis Molten Lava

 • Papaver Pizzicato Mix

 • Phlox Amazing Grace

 • Verbascum Southern Charm

If you are looking for some cheerful and bright color right away, our cyclamen mix that we are growing has very prolific flowers. My favorite thing about our cyclamen is that the foliage has just as much variety as the blooms. It is tough to find two that are exactly alike, with perfectly matching leaves and flowers. Cyclamen are a bit like succulents when it comes to water, they prefer to dry out a bit between waterings.

Speaking of succulents… we have a huge selection right now! My favorites this year are some of the Senecios and the Kalanchoes. Our succulents should be kept indoors this time of year, as they do not like the cold. They are great for windowsills, or in any room that has a nice sunny window. They can be put outside in the warmer months. We also will have a new selection of planters to choose from this year, so you can match your new succulent to the perfect pot.

On January 10th we will be opening for our regular winter hours. Stop by and visit us from 9am – 4pm Monday through Friday. It is exciting to see the greenhouse fill up with plants, so be sure to stop by and see what is new. You can also check our availability list on our website www.ashlandgreenhouses.com. We will be updating the availability list every week, adding more and more plants to choose from!
