April is the Prettiest Time Here

The Queen of Spring has arrived and She is adorned in color. April is Her month and we marvel at how beautiful She is. Spring is still youthful when She arrives. Sometimes fussy with bouts of annoying showers cast along the way, but always She comes with anticipation for those of us who like to put a plant in the ground. April She comes. But you know what they say, “April showers bring May flowers.” I’ve had the opportunity to see many springs come and go and they are never the same. But one thing is sure; the 3rd week in April has to be the prettiest time of the year here at the greenhouses. We are awash in color and availability. Things begin to disappear around here around this time. Earlier it’s like ants at a picnic. A crumb here and there begins to leave but no real noticeable holes. But as we get deeper into April large swaths of plants are gone. Careful. It’s still dangerous to plant tender plants for a few weeks yet. But we can help you decide what is safe, and what is not for your particular garden. Many of our customers take advantage of their hobby greenhouses and plant shelters. We’ve seen an increase in such activity as mentioned in our October letter. Sales begin to ramp up especially towards the 3rd week when we have both the most color and availability. April and May are our busiest months as expected, and the most fun. Pretty much all our baskets will be ready by the middle of the month. Geraniums are in full bloom. Everywhere you look it’s hard not to miss the sounds of the “ooohs” and “ahhs” throughout the store area. You guys have discovered what we see unfold, that spring eventually loosens the grip of winter and it is full steam ahead outdoors. It’s all here and it’s all available. We invite you to come down and bring a friend to see what April is all about.
